Automated enhanced background checks for energy & utilities
Companies in the energy and utilities sector are a central part of Denmark’s critical infrastructure. With the NIS2 and CER Directives and Executive Order no. 1075 of 27 August 2025 on security clearances in the energy sector, the Danish energy sector is subject to stricter requirements for background checks of employees and suppliers with access to critical functions. This places new demands on how organisations document and follow up on their background checks. P-Secure manages the entire process digitally — from initial employment to ongoing re-checks — with full traceability and in accordance with GDPR.

Compliance challenges in the energy and supply sector
Companies must ensure that a large number of employees, suppliers, and partners across complex supply chains, and with access to critical functions, undergo appropriate background checks. At the same time, documentation must at all times comply with applicable requirements and be available as accurate, traceable, and audit-ready.
In practice, this can create compliance challenges, as both the volume of individuals and the complexity of supply chains increase the risk of errors, lack of consistency, and administrative burdens related to ongoing monitoring and documentation.

Regulatory framework and P-Secure's recommendations
The requirements include:
- ID check (Executive Order no. 1075 and CER)
- CV check — at least 5 years back including documentation of gaps in employment and education (Executive Order no. 1075)

P-Secure additionally recommends the following as pre-screening ahead of security clearance:
- Personal details
- Education
- Residence and work permit
- Periods of residence abroad exceeding 6 months (5 years back)
- Business roles
- Photo ID (passport or driving licence)
NIS2 and CER P-Secure also supports compliance with the NIS2 Directive on the security of network and information systems and the CER Directive on the resilience of critical entities, both of which place requirements on how organisations in the energy sector manage personnel security and risk.
